Body of Evidence #6: Skin Deep

Gets you thinking.......
I have read this book twice. Once on my own and again for a school assignment. I used this book because we had to get a book that was universally appealing which this book is. It speaks to many people about one of the most serious conflict that we face in this world. It thought it was an extremely great book that everyone can learn from. It has a scientific appeal to it that makes the reader interested as it did me. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to be on their seat while reading this.

I thought this book was great.....
This book was great!! It deals with the problems of an interraccial relationship, racism and the likes. Anyone who loves a good mystery shouild read this book because it is really good!!

More than just a murder mystery
I have followed Christopher Golden's Jenna Blake Series for all seven books now. I can definitely say that Skin Deep was my absolute favorite. The mystery was intriguing yes, but what really hooked me was the social issue it dealed with. Racism, black and white inter-racial dating. This is something many teens deal with today and, just as the story, opinions about such a thing are strong. I like the way Golden presented both sides of the issue, black and white. It was commendable how he got under each race's skin, even though he is white himself. I loved the voices he gave everyone. I'm sad Damon was so weird though, cause I liked Damon. Oh well, LoL. Point is, get this book if you're looking for some action, high emotions and while you read it... this book might just get you thinking about why race has to be such a big issue in our lives.

The Confidence Factor : Cosmic Gooses Lay Golden Eggs

Winner of Best Business Motivation Book 2002--
The Confidence Factor was awarded the "Best Business Motivation Book from the Colorado Independent Publishers Association annual awards event in June 2002.

How this book motivated me
I was in a rut, scared and irritated with life. After a strong recommendation from a friend, I read The Confidence Factor. Wow. This book is not only about the philosophy of confidence, but actual ways to address my personal situations. Because of the insights Dr. Briles shared, I now surround myself with respected and positive people. I admit my failures and faults -- I am NOT the only goof. There's a whole world of them/us out there! I carry on knowing I am smarter for the experience and for the next time! I treat others better and with more respect. This is then returned to me. The list goes on...This book has helped me reevaluate my actions (to myself AND others) resulting in positive changes in my life during a very difficult (and at the time, I thought Impossible!) period. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

For men too---
My brother was recently laid off. I bought him this book because his self-esteem was at an all time low. After reading the book, the change in him was was significant. Dr. Briles has a way of cutting through the fluff with without being harsh. I'm buying lots more books for graduation gifts. Wish I'd been given this book when I graduated. Jean Kelley

The Golden Egg
I absolutely loved this book! The illustrations were full of beauty and color. The children loved to read along by saying the color of the egg before I flipped the the flap showing it.
I read this book to a group of children 3-5, they along with me highly recomend this book.

Wonderful book even beyond Easter
My 2.5 yr old son received this as an Easter gift and just loved it. It is still his favorite book and 2 months has passed. He loves the shimmery colors, illustrations, flaps, words...everything. This is a great book! As a parent, I like the book as well. It is a classy book.

The Golden Egg
I actually picked up a copy of this book while traveling......loved it so much, I'm ordering additional copies. It is one of the nicest Easter books for young children I have ever seen.

The Golden Letters: The Three Statements of Garab Dorje, the First Teacher of Dzogchen, Together With a Commentary
Published in Paperback by Snow Lion Pubns (February, 1997)
Authors: Garab Dorje, John Myrdhin Reynolds, Garab, and Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche
Average review score:

A lamp in the dark
The essence of the Dzogchen teaching is found in Garab Dorje's "The Three Statements That Strike the Essential Point" (Garab Dorje was the first Dzogchen master). These "Three Statements" appeared in a text known as "The Last Testament of Garab Dorje" which was part of a larger work known as the "Golden Letters".

The nineteenth century Dzogchen master Patrul Rinpoche wrote an important commentary of "The Three Statements" entitled "The Special Teaching of the Wise and Glorious King", this is the main subject matter of the present book.

Patrul Rinpoche's commentary is a joy to read, it is to the point and written in simple clear language with a minimum of technical phrases. If this wasn't enough we are then treated to further clarification with John Myrdhin Reynolds generous commentary of "The Special Teaching".

Later in the book there are more treasures in the form of a translation of the actual "Last Testament" together with Reynold's superb interlinear commentary. By the end of the book the reader is left in little doubt (as far as words can take us) as to the meaning of "The Three Statements".

It is written "to look for gold in the dark we need a lamp". "The Golden Letters" is such a lamp.

Golden Letters
This book is of great benefit because it points us directly to our true nature and it gives a very wide range of explanations for those that may need a bit more.It is a great invitation to explore within oneself. This book also helps us understand in more depth what Padmasambhava left us as great gift: Self Liberation through Seing with Nacked Awareness.

Just THIS.
If you're one of the few with the estimable karma to have truly seen through the futility of seeking as the means to 'finding,' you will only need a few lines or pages of this miraculous 'Vajra' (diamond/indestructible) teaching to 'arrive home.' If you're not, your ego's misappropriation of the stuff will probably send you on another ego trip of a few million reincarnations.

So... on one hand, this book is worth its weight in diamonds many times over; on the other, it's extremely dangerous, and useless -- it doesn't tell you anything your True Nature does not already know.

Have a deep and honest understanding of your state before you click on the order button.

The Golden Oasis
Published in Paperback by R.W. Swanson & Associates, Inc. (15 July, 1999)
Author: Richard Swanson
Average review score:

Desert Intrigue
A first rate tale by Richard Swanson. Juicy intrigue in the desert with expensive, fast cars, pretty women & danger. I enjoyed this book very much. I found it to be well written & compelling. I also liked the setting, having spent a great deal of time in the Palm Springs area. Bravo, Richard! Write us another one!

Totin' My Old '44 to the Golden Oasis
Swanson has created a winner with an intricate but clever plot, interesting heroes and villains, and enough twists and turns to keep you guessing about what will happen next. Swanson's writing style is reminicent of Sue Grafton with characters you care about and a story that keeps you reading.

The story takes place in the lap of luxury and extravagance, Palm Springs. The playground for the idle rich and powerful is the perfect backdrop for intrigue, murder, and true evil. The hero, Thomas Knight, has a bad feeling that something is wrong, terribly wrong, and must get to the bottom of it before ..... Susan Strong, the heroine, believes her father was murdered, but just by whom and how does she prove it. Between the two of them, Knight and Strong, sparks fly as they unwittingly work to the same conclusion.

Swanson has created a realistic and provocative story based in a setting he seems to know very well. He almost makes you wonder where the truth ends and his story begins.

The Golden Oasis is a well-conceived and enjoyable story. Hopefully, Swanson will give us more of Knight and Strong.

GREAT ENTERTAINMENT
The more I read, the more I wanted to read--very exciting storyline. Can't wait for the next book to see what kind of trouble Thomas Knight and Susan Strong get into in Las Vegas.

The Golden Treasury of Poetry (Golden Storybooks)
Published in Hardcover by Goldencraft (September, 1987)

A True Treasury!
...I loved the pictures and the poems, and began looking for it 14 years ago for my home. Wish I'd looked at Amazon a while ago. The illustrations stay in your mind forever - whimsical and beautiful. The poems are second to none, and some, I have never found elsewhere. I just about cried for joy today when I got my hands on MY VERY OWN copy. Every house should have one! This book is a true treasure!

"Tiger, tiger, burning bright..."
...Begins one of my many favorites introduced to me by this book. My mother (a librarian) first read poems such as "Wynken, Blynken, and Nod" to me from this book, and I continued to read them until a hiatus where a young man disdains poetry as not being macho. I rediscovered many an old friend when I started reading these poems to my own children. Now the book is in tatters (glueback bindings do not stand the test of time, especially not in dry Colorado), and I search for a replacement. If the reissue has indeed been 'sanitized' in the name of political correctness, then I fear much will have been lost, and I will be reduced to trying to rebind my tatters.

A Gold Mine
I fell in love with this book in my elementary library. I've paid enough late fines on it in the last 15 years to have bought the book several times over. It's here that I fell in love with Lady Clair and a million other classics that have resurfaced over and over in my classes in grade school and college. I want my own copy!

Golden Urchin
Published in Hardcover by Ulverscroft Large Print (July, 1987)
Author: Madeleine Brent
Average review score:

Excellent
I have discovered Madeleine Brent's novels recently and liked those so much that I have tried to read all of them. Two of these novels I have not managed to find yet (for a reasonable price), but so far Golden Urchin is my favorite of Brent's novels. Mitji is a white girl which has been raised by aborigenes and as the novel starts she is leaving her tribe to go search for the tribes of more white people. And Mitji's personality is fascinating, she looks at things very differently than expected because of the way she was raised and it is touching to watch her adapt to Western civilization. The love story is also believable and touching. Excellent novel, very recommended.

Excellent research, plot development, mystery, suspense!!
This is the first of the Madeleine Brent books I ever read and I am so addicted to her!!! Maiti is the white orphan child taken in by a tribe of Aborigines in the Austrailian outback, but after a falling out with one of her closest friends in the tribe, Maiti decides to leave the tribe in search of her own kind, the white people. She becomes Meg, the young English lady who wins the heart of a kindly couple in Perth and finds out that she in the heiress to a grand fortune. There's no sense in spilling a drop of the complex, rich plot that carries Meg from England to the Skeleton Coast. Just read this book and get to know an extraordinary young woman who proves herself a hero over and over again!!!

Excellent book!
A very good books, interesting to read, and with excellent historical research! I have reread it several times, and each time I enjoy it again!

The Golden Cross (The Heirs of Cahira O'Connor Series , No 2)
Published in Paperback by Waterbrook Press (20 October, 1998)
Author: Angela Elwell Hunt

A Masterpiece
This book is engrossing, to say the least. Be prepared to lose hours of your time in order to finish this book. The book moves quickly, with secrets and dastardly plots. Aidan O'Connor seeks to escape her life in the slums by using her art. Her patron sees her talent and seeks to have it brought to the light of day.

The characters are rich and well rounded. The conversions and realizations of self are truly well written and believable. Personally, I like how the beginning and end of every book begins with Kathleen setting up the story, and then giving a postscript.

This is a wonderful book that can bring to life an entirely new world.

Awesome Book
This book surprised me! (in a VERY good way) I read the first book in this series, "The Silver Sword", and didn't think much of it so I wasn't really looking forward to reading this one so I was amazed when I couldn't pull myself out of this one. Some of the other reviewers said that the book captures your attention and you won't be able to put it down. This is sooo true! I found myself taking it everywhere with me so that I could read it, including the grocery store. I was constantly wondering what was going to happen next with Aidan! So definitely read this book one and all and also check out my other reviews! :)

A Wonderful Book
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I liked it better than the first in the series, although that was good too. Stories about the sea always interest me and the book held my interest all the way through. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to paint as well. The character's faith in God was brought out through the whole book. I am looking forward to the third in the series.

Golden Wisdom for Today's Woman: Treasured Portraits of Faith
Published in Paperback by David C. Cook Publishing Company (January, 2003)
Author: Barbara Sims
Average review score:

ABOUT WOMEN BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY FOR WOMEN
Realizing that this book was written about women, for women, I was a little hesitant to pick it up. However, as my curiosity overcame my hesitancy and I began to read. As I read, I soon realized that I knew several of the women but I also realized that I didn't really know them. Reading "the rest of the story" of each of them was so-o-o interesting and inspiring.

Like the stories of Ruth, Naomi, and Esther, which men and women alike have read and appreciated for centuries, so the inspiring stories of these women, as fereted and recorded by Barbara Sims, will inspire you to thank God that He still produces and uses Godly women in his service today. Whether used as a devotional book, reading a story a day; in search of role models for yourself, a family member or a friend; or seeking vivid proof that God's love is exemplified in today's society, this book fits the bill.

Do yourself a favor. Pick up a copy of the book. Select any one of the stories at random. Read it and then try to put the book aside. Like the old potato chip commercial said, "Bet you can't eat just one." I'll bet you can't read just one. Give it a try.

Examples of Treasures from Daily Lives
As I sat down to read Barbara's book, I felt as if I was visiting each individual lady and hearing her story. This book is a good daily devotional book with emphasis on women - maybe around Mother's Day or Family Week. Such wonderful "portraits" of Christian living are portrayed.

Golden Wisdom for Today's Woman
This book is a treasure for any age woman. The brief biographies of these mature women are testimonies to their faith. Their strength in adversity is attributed to their love of God, their families, and their fellow man. Their desire to share their stories gives the reader an example to follow in today's trials and tribulations. This book has touched my heart, as I know it will touch anyone's who reads it.
